BRIEF OVERVIEW

The Florida Department of Health in Hernando County announced its 2024 application cycle for the Emergency Medical Services Matching Grant. This grant allows counties to apply for projects that provide or effect direct services to emergency victims, training projects, or other quality assurance, management or administrative needs.

Under previous grant applications, Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services has received funding for automated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) machines to support the busiest fire stations in the County. They determined that an additional 14 machines are needed to provide machines at all fire stations throughout the County. The City of Brooksville has asked to partner with the County in this application to purchase three automated CPR machines to increase the efficiencies of their Basic Life Support (BLS) functions. If awarded, these machines have the capability to significantly increase positive health outcomes to those residents experiencing cardiac arrest.

The City of Brooksville has committed to $15,778.07 in total match funds for the purchase of the 3 units requested; their agenda item as approved on January 8 is attached to this item.

The total project cost is $357,636.31, with the grant award requested from the state being $268,227.23.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The Florida Department of Health requires 25% of the total cost to be paid through non-grant funds. Matching funds in the amount of $73,631.00 are available in the EMS fund FY2023-2024 budget. A budget resolution will be submitted if an award is received.

LEGAL NOTE

The Board has the authority to act on this request in accordance with Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.
