body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

The Gulf Consortium voted to share Florida’s Restore Act Spill Impact funding allocation ($293 million dollars over a 15-year period) equally among 23 member counties, of which Hernando County is included.

The Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council approved funding to the Gulf Consortium for Hernando County’s Coastal Stormwater Improvement - Calienta Street (Project No. 14-5 of the Gulf Consortium State Expenditure Plan) on June 25, 2024.  Following the award from the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Council/ RESTORE Council, the Gulf Consortium prepared subrecipient agreement no. 240057145.01 in the amount of $2,996,345.00 for construction and construction-related activities in association with the Coastal Stormwater Improvement - Calienta Street Stormwater Improvements and Realignment.

This project involves drainage infrastructure improvements and the construction of a stormwater treatment system along Calienta Street, adjacent to the Hernando Beach canal system, to reduce property flooding and improve water quality.  This project will be constructed in conjunction with the Petit Lane realignment to reduce flooding and improve access for commercial and industrial users, residents, and tourists to this area alike.

The Gulf Consortium will provide $2,996,345.00 towards the construction services of the Calienta Street project.  Costs above this amount will be the responsibility of Hernando County.

An associated budget resolution is attached to this item for the Board’s consideration and approval.
