Given the rise in population and ongoing development, the need for a new fire station in this vicinity has become essential. Purchasing this property on Old Stage Coach Road may provide an opportunity for a new fire station to accommodate citizens in this area of Hernando County. Higher population densities heighten accident and hazard risks. Additional fire stations offer preventative measures and resources to mitigate these risks by minimizing damage and saving lives. New fire stations also distribute workloads, preventing over burdening of existing resources and maintaining a high level of service.
Additionally, adequate fire protection infrastructure, including fire stations, can potentially lead to lower insurance premiums for residents and businesses, making the area more attractive for investment and settlement.
Staff recommends the contract to purchase the property located on Old Stage Coach Road, currently owned by Matthew Dean Spivey in the amount of $145,000.00 be approved. If approved by the board, staff is considering several options as to the future use or disposition of the mobile home once Hernando County has taken possession.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve and authorize the Chairperson’s signature on the attached contract for the purchase agreement negotiated by staff with Matthew Dean Spivey, for property located on Old Stagecoach Road for the amount of $145,000.00. It is further recommended that the Board authorize the County Attorney’s Office to sign all documents on behalf of the County necessary to close this transaction.
