Second Amendment to Agreement With Southwest Florida Water Management District for Culbreath Road Area Flood Relief Project

body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

On September 25, 2018, the Board approved the submittal of Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) Cooperative Funding Agreement 19CF0001825 for the Culbreath Road Area Flood Relief Project.

Culbreath Road serves as a primary connection between the City of Brooksville and the State Road 52/Interstate 75 Interchange in northern Pasco County.  Many Hernando County residents utilize Culbreath Road for daily commutes to jobs in Tampa.  The road traverses a low-lying area and floods during tropical storms or El Nino events.  When flooding occurs, the road is inundated for months necessitating long and time-consuming detours for commuters and costly repairs for the County.  The agreement provides funding for 30% engineering design of the roadway and stormwater improvements providing enhanced traffic safety benefits and reducing neighborhood flooding.

On January 26, 2021 the Board approved a First Amendment to the agreement which extended the period of the agreement to June 30, 2023 and allocated additional funding for the completion of the engineering design, regulatory permitting, and construction of drainage improvements.

                                  Hernando County Cost:                      $293,430

                                  SWFWMD Cost:                              $293,430

                                  Total Cost:                            $586,860

Both parties wish to amend the Existing Agreement to replace the Cooperator’s (County’s) Project Manager with Donald S. Carey, P.E., extend the contract expiration date to June 30, 2025, and modify the project schedule.
