BRIEF OVERVIEW
On May 24, 2022, the Board approved for staff to draft an application for the Florida Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Housing Rehabilitation. Staff drafted an application, conducted the Second Public Hearing on June 2, 2022, consulted with members of the Citizen’s Advisory Task Force, and made a copy available for review and comment by the public as advertised. Three copies of the final application are attached for your review and approval.
The Hernando County Housing Assistance Plan, which serves as a guide for implementing the housing strategies and related aspects of the County’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Program has been updated for your review and approval.
The Community Development Block Grant is a competitive process based on points. To optimize the County’s standing in this process, use of leverage funds in the amount of $50,000 from the State Housing Initiative Partnership Program (SHIP) as a match is being requested to increase the County’s standing for a CDBG award of $750,000 for housing rehabilitation. A resolution to commit to spend $50,000 in local SHIP revenues on CDBG eligible activities and authorizing the chairman or vice chairman to make application to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for approval of the Hernando County Community Development Grant - Housing Rehabilitation is also attached for your review and approval.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
None at this time. Upon award and acceptance of the grant, $50,000 will be provided from the State Housing Initiative Partnership Program as match.

The Board has the authority to proceed in accordance with Chapter 125 Florida Statutes.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve and authorize the Chairman’s signature on the attached Community Development Block Grant Housing Assistance Plan and Procedures for Hernando County Florida FFY 2022-2026 and associated resolution for match funding in the amount of $50,000.
