BRIEF OVERVIEW
At a public hearing on June 9th, Hernando County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services discussed options with the Board of County Commissioners for adjusting the Fire Municipal Services Benefits Unit (MSBU) assessment rate. The Board of County Commissioners directed Hernando County Fire Rescue to leave their rates at 0% increase. Based on that decision, an update of the 2026 MSBU Fire Assessment Study was prepared indicating that the impact of maintaining the MSBU without adjusting the rate will result in a decrease of approximately $2.5 million in revenue for FY27. The complete final study is attached.
