body
BRIEF OVERVIEW
Florida State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) grant funds are derived from surcharges levied on fines for various traffic violations. The Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Emergency Medical Services is authorized by Chapter 401, Part 11, Florida Statutes to distribute these funds to county governments and their emergency medical services providers. The goal of the program is to improve and expand pre-hospital emergency medical services.
Hernando County's FY 2024 grant award is $20,643.45 to be expended in FY 2024. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) will oversee administration and submittal of the final application requesting eleven (11) automated external defibrillators (AED's) for the vehicles and offices.
The Florida Department of Health has made internal updates to their processes for grants which caused delay this year in awarding the grants. To meet the State's deadline for their fiscal year of June 30, the Chair signed the Memorandum of Agreement with the DOH on June 28, 2024. HCFES is requesting ratification of the Agreement.
