BRIEF OVERVIEW
Given the rise in population and ongoing development, the demand for a new fire station in this vicinity has become imperative. Purchasing these properties on Old Stage Coach Road may provide an opportunity for a new fire station to accommodate citizens in this area of Hernando County. Higher population densities heighten accident and hazard risks. Additional fire stations offer preventative measures and resources to mitigate these risks by minimizing damage and saving lives. New fire stations also distribute workloads, preventing over burdening of existing resources and maintaining a high level of service. Additionally, adequate fire protection infrastructure, including fire stations, can potentially lead to lower insurance premiums for residents and businesses, making the area more attractive for investment and settlement.

Staff therefore recommends that the contracts to purchase the properties located on Old Stage Coach Road, currently owned by Christopher and Virginia Clement, Trustees of the Clement Family Trust dated December 26, 2006, be approved.
