BRIEF OVERVIEW
On July 28, 2026, Chairman Jerry Campbell presented the attached preliminary draft ordinance and directed that the item be brought back at the next Board of County Commissioners meeting for further discussion. It would establish additional ethics and conflict of interest standards applicable to members of the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners. Additionally, it includes legislative findings and definitions; establishes restrictions on certain development-related financial interests; prohibits Commissioners from acquiring or holding certain tax certificates, tax deeds, tax liens, and related interests within Hernando County during their term of office; requires the divestiture of prohibited financial interests by newly elected or appointed Commissioners; establishes annual financial disclosure requirements; provides for enforcement, severability, and an effective date.
