Various Community Development Block Grant Program Funding Agreements to Nonprofit Organizations

BRIEF OVERVIEW
Hernando County was awarded Urban Cities Community Development Block Grant funding. As a result, the County is required to provide 15% of their allocation to support nonprofits in the community. Activities must serve all residents of unincorporated Hernando County where at least 51 percent of the residents are Low to Moderate Income (LMI) or groups presumed to be LMI residents such as abused children, battered spouses, elderly persons, severely disabled adults, homeless persons, etc.
The County's total allocation was $1,122,376 and the amount available to support nonprofit organization in the community is $168,356. Public notice was advertised for applications and the following applications and amounts were received were scored.
* Outreach to Unsheltered Homeless, $35,000 - Jericho Road Ministries
* Rise Empowerment Center, $40,000 - End Hunger and Nourish Hope
* Community Emergency Assistance, $20,000 - United Way of Hernando
* Enrichment Caf? & Recreational Center, $43,000 - The Arc Nature Coast (Updated budget submitted.)
* Active Senior Summer at the Y, $39,781 - YMCA of the Suncoast
* Moving Ahead with Economic Empowerment, $30,000 - Salvare, Inc., d/b/a Dawn Center of Hernando County
The scoring committee consisted of Veda Ramirez, Director; Haydee Padin-Alvarez, Community Development Specialist; Krystle Scott, Program Coordinator; and Velvet Burris, Housing Coordinator. Based on eligible applications received and the amount of funds requested, funding is available for all applicants to receive the amount requested for their projects under Public Services except for the Rise Empowerment Center and Jericho Road Ministries.
The Rise Empowerment Center is not eligible because construction is not allowed under Public Services and Jericho Road Ministries is eligible but their request to purchase an automobile was not an ...
