Ratification of Proclamation Nos. 2024-04 and 2024-05 Declaring and Extending Local State of Emergency Due to Hurricane Helene f/k/a Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine

BRIEF OVERVIEW
Governor Ron DeSantis declared a State of Emergency in the State of Florida due to the severity of Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine (which later developed into Hurricane Helene), and a State of Local Emergency was subsequently declared by Hernando County for a period of seven days from September 23-29, 2024. In conjunction with the Executive Policy Group, the Board Chairwoman signed Proclamation No. 2024-04 on September 23, 2024, declaring the Local State of Emergency, ending at 11:59 p.m. on September 29, 2024.
A State of Local Emergency was extended for a period of seven (7) days for Hernando County, effective September 30, 2024, through October 6, 2024, with Proclamation No. 2024-05. Proclamation No. 2024-05 was signed by the Board Chairwoman in conjunction with the Executive Policy Group on September 29, 2024. Copy of the Proclamation No. 2024-05 is attached.

The Board has authority to act on this matter pursuant to Chapter 252, Florida Statutes, Hernando County Code XII, § 21-201 through 21-210, Executive Order No. 24-208, and Amended Executive Order 24-209.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve the actions taken by Emergency Management during the State of Emergency declared for Hurricane Helene and ratify the Chairwoman’s signature on Proclamation Numbers 2024-04 and 2024-05.
