Funding Agreement With Withlacoochee Regional Water Supply Authority for Regional Irrigation Evaluation Program (Phase 8)

body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

Hernando County Utilities Department (HCUD) has partnered with the Withlacoochee Regional Water Supply Authority (WRWSA) and the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) to aid high water use customers through the Regional Irrigation Evaluation Program. The Regional Irrigation Evaluation Program will provide HCUD participants either a core evaluation, including an irrigation system evaluation, site specific recommendations, rain sensor installation, if an operable sensor is not present, and Florida-Friendly Landscaping educational materials, or an enhanced evaluation, which builds upon the core evaluation components and can also include timer change-outs and enhancement, repair of irrigation systems and other enhancements to implement recommendations. Hernando County saw a nearly 20% decline in per capita water use for the participants of the earlier phases of the Regional Irrigation Projects.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

WRWSA and Hernando County will enter into a funding agreement where HCUD would fund $11,550.00 from:

Fund:  4111 - Hernando County Utilities, Department:  07151 - Water Conservation, Account:  5303401 - Contracted Services.

The WRWSA would fund $34,650.00 for a total project cost of $46,200.00 (11,550 + 34,650), with WRWSA to be reimbursed by SWFWMD up to $20,000.00 of the total project costs. This will cover an estimated 10 core and 50 enhanced irrigation system water audits on single-family residential properties.
