Revision to Board Policy No. 15-02 Regarding Sandbag Policy

body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

Attached is proposed revised Policy Number 15-02 Sandbag Policy.  The suggested revisions, deletions, and additions to the policy will improve efficiency, enhance production, and provide specific procedures to ensure compatibility and uniformity among departments.  This policy has not been updated since 2005.

Revisions to the policy include:

To establish guidelines for the provision of sand and sandbags in preparation of storms/flooding events rather than during periodic flooding events.

Sandbags shall be made available to Hernando County residents (“Residents”) only rather than non-specified residents.

Upon a determination that a storm may cause flooding and/or flooding condition is eminent or exists, the County Administrator or Emergency Management Officer may authorize the issuance of sandbags, and sand, on an as-needed basis at a County approved Distribution Area.

Reduce the number of sandbags distributed to residents from 50 down to 20.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Approval of Policy has no direct financial impact.

LEGAL NOTE
