Discussion Regarding Location for Linda Pedersen Park Observation Tower Replacement

BRIEF OVERVIEW
On June 24, 2025, the Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract for the demolition of the Linda Pedersen Observation Tower. In conjunction with strong community support, the Board of County Commissioners authorized the Parks Department to begin the process of determining a location for construction of a replacement observation tower. The Parks Department has reviewed existing and alternative locations for the replacement tower. It has also coordinated with the Environmental Clubs in Hernando County to receive their feedback on tower replacement locations. Both the Sierra and Audubon Clubs provided guidance and possible recommendations on the potential location.
The alternate locations presented for the Board’s consideration are Weeki Wachee Preserve, Bayport Park, and the existing location at Linda Pedersen Park. Coastal Engineering is designing the Weeki Wachee Preserve Phase 1 and has also provided feedback on the potential locations.

It is recommended that the Board review the recommendations of the Environmental Clubs, Parks Department, and Consultants, and determine a location for the construction of the replacement tower.
