Presentation Regarding Proposed Revisions to Landscape Buffer Requirements Within Land Development Regulations

body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

Staff has developed proposed revisions to the landscape buffer requirements in the Land Development Regulations to provide consistency and clarification on landscape buffers for all projects being developed within Hernando County.  These revisions have been developed to:

Consolidate all references to landscape buffers for residential and commercial projects under Community Appearance section of code.

Create a matrix to provide details on landscape requirements - number and types of trees, shrubs, and groundcover, spacing requirements, buffer widths, etc.

Remove reference to an opacity requirement and instead replacing with objective defined criteria for buffer installation.

Provide clarity on what can be included in a vegetative buffer, such as stormwater swales, pipes, overflow, etc., that could conflict with buffer design and intent.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

A matter of policy.

LEGAL NOTE

The Board is authorized to act on this matter pursuant to Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.
