Summary of Applicant’s Request:

The intent of the rezoning is to allow for the establishment of a small-scale hobby farm. The proposed use would consist of limited agricultural activities, including the keeping of chickens for egg production and the cultivation of vegetables, primarily for personal consumption. Any surplus products would be utilized for non-commercial purposes.

 

Planning and Zoning Commission Recommendation:

On October 13, 2025, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted 3-2 to recommend the Board of County Commissioners adopt a resolution approving the petitioner’s request for a rezoning from R-1C (Residential) to AR (Agricultural/Residential) in accordance with the staff report.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT

A matter of policy.  There is no financial impact.

 

LEGAL NOTE

The Board has the authority to make the requested rezoning decision pursuant to Chapters 125 and 163 Florida Statutes.  The Applicable Criteria for a Zoning District Amendment are contained in Appendix A (Zoning Code), Article VI.  The Zoning District Amendment must be consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.

It is recommended that the Board adopt and approve the Chairman’s signature on the attached resolution approving the petitioners’ request for a rezoning from R-1C (Residential) to AR (Agricultural/Residential) in accordance with the staff report.
