Request by Sheriff’s Office to Apply for FY 2023 Bureau of Justice Assistance Grant for Replacement of Vests Through Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership

BRIEF OVERVIEW
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) has announced the Fiscal Year 2023 Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) application funding period. BJA makes grants to local governments to protect the lives of law enforcement officers by helping law enforcement agencies provide officers with armored vests.
The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is asking for approval to submit an application for funding to replace 30 vests within the grant award period. We are requesting funding in the amount of $12,300.00 with a required match of $12,300.00. If this grant is awarded, documentation will be presented to the Board for acceptance.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
No financial impact at this time. If awarded the grant, there will be an increase in revenue to the grant department.

The Board has the authority to act on this matter pursuant to Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve and authorize Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Accounting Specialist, Jacob Lynch, to submit the grant application electronically. If the grant is awarded, documentation will be presented to the Board for acceptance.
