Discussion Regarding Funding for County Maintained Roads Resurfacing and Expansion Projects
body
BRIEF OVERVIEW
The current Road Resurfacing program is not sufficient to resurface county-maintained roads in a reasonable time frame. County Commissioners and Staff have had discussions on options to improve roadway maintenance programs.
The BOCC has also approved design and eventual construction of several roadways for expansion. These roadways will be bonded and debt payments pledged from Gas Tax. Impact fees can be used to pay the debt service. Staff has concerns that future debt payments for roadway expansion might reduce the amount of funding available for roadway maintenance, resurfacing and other transportation improvements.
Alternate revenue sources of either increasing Transportation Millage or a dedicated half-cent sales tax are a possible solution.
