Acceptance of US Department of Homeland Security for FY 2022-23 Assistance to Firefighters Grant for Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services and Associated Budget Resolution

BRIEF OVERVIEW
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) helps to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with fire-related hazards through the Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) Grant. The AFG program objectives are to provide critically needed resources that equip and train emergency personnel to help support community resilience. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services has been awarded $68,181.81 with a matching amount of $6,818.19 totaling $75,000.00 for tuition reimbursement of fifteen (15) paramedic courses. The Board authorized applying for this grant on January 24, 2023 (Legistar 11655).
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Grant funding of $68,182 within EMS fund Account No. 1691-32202-3312202 with a 10% cost match of $6,818 from EMS fund Account No. 1691-02491-5999078 for a total of $75,000 to be expensed from EMS fund Account No. 1691-32202-5303401 contracted services.

The Board is authorized to act on this matter pursuant to Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.
recommendation
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board accept the Department of Homeland Security FY 2022 Grant Program award (no. EMW-2022-FG-07564) and designate Fire Chief Paul Hasenmeier to electronically accept the award per the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) grant policies. It is further recommended that the Board approve and authorize the Chairman’s signature on the attached associated budget resolution.
