Update Regarding Status of Declaration of Temporary Burn Ban Due to Drought Conditions

BRIEF OVERVIEW
On January 29, 2026, the Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution ratifying the declaration by the County Administrator, upon the recommendation of the Fire Chief, that an emergency drought condition exists and his enactment of a temporary burn ban throughout the unincorporated areas of Hernando County (Legistar No. 16976). Fire and Emergency Services staff will provide an update to the Board regarding precipitation and Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) numbers.

There is no financial impact.

The Board is authorized to act on this matter pursuant to Chapter 12 of the Hernando County Code and Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.
