BRIEF OVERVIEW
In an interlocal agreement dated September 23, 2025, the City agreed to consolidate its municipal fire department with that of the County.
Article 2.3 of the Interlocal Agreement, Pension, requires the City to “take all actions necessary to close its existing Fire Pension Plan in accordance with Florida Statutes.”
The City fulfilled this obligation on January 27, 2026, when it enacted Ordinance No. 1010, which terminated the City’s pre-existing Firefighters’ Retirement Trust Fund, effective Nunc pro Tunc to October 1, 2025 (i.e., the beginning of the current fiscal year).
Attached hereto please find a copy of a letter dated January 27, 2026, from City Clerk Jennifer Battista to Keith E. Brinkman of the Florida Division of Retirement, to which a copy of Ordinance 1010 is attached.
