Write-Off of Uncollectible Utilities Department Accounts

BRIEF OVERVIEW
At the regular Board meeting held on July 17, 2007, the Board approved a uniform write-off policy for Hernando County Utilities Department (HCUD). In accordance with Resolution No. 2007-197, HCUD is requesting to write off the attached listing of accounts receivable totaling $22,043.72 which are deemed uncollectible. Write-off amounts are attributed to various factors including transient customers, foreclosures, and bankruptcies and all reasonable attempts have been taken to collect payment on these accounts.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Write-off amount of $22,043.72 is available in Fund: 4111 - Hernando County Utilities, Department: 07091 - HCUD Administration, Account: 5304975 - Bad debt expense on A/R.

The Board is authorized to act on this matter pursuant to Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve the write-off of the uncollectible accounts not to exceed $22,043.72, with no individual customer account exceeding $10,000.00.
