Request to Apply for Federal FY 2022 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant
body
BRIEF OVERVIEW
Email correspondence was received from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement advising that $59,342 in Federal FY 2022 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funding has been set aside for use by all units of government within Hernando County. The Board of County Commissioners’ approval is needed to apply for the funding. There is no match requirement.
As a condition of participation and to proceed with grant applications, the units of government representing at least 51% of the County must reach a consensus concerning expenditure of the funds and document this consensus in what is termed the 51% letter. This consensus must include the projects to be implemented as well as the agency responsible for such implementation. The Substance Abuse Policy Advisory Board (SAPAB) met on August 10, 2023, and voted to recommend that the Board of County Commissioners approve the funding, to be allocated as follows: $44,507.00 - Hernando County Sheriff's Office for purchase of in-car cameras; and $14,835.00 - Hernando County Court Administration fifth Judicial Circuit Adult Drug Court Program. A letter with the same recommendation has been sent to Brooksville City Council for approval.
