Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Project Planning Update and Related Budget Resolution
body
BRIEF OVERVIEW
In January of 2025, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) assumed the operations of Animal Services (AS).
Per the MOU, “The County shall set aside any unspent funds and revenues earned for capital projects that benefit the shelter.”
The HCSO is requesting approval of the changes below.
The first project is to use existing budget for a design for a generator for the current structure. The new structure currently designed has a generator planned; however, the existing structure is without a generator backup, which puts animals at risk during a power outage. The HCSO was provided with an estimate of $50,000.
The second request is to add programmatic design of the existing structure to incorporate with the animal shelter expansion to have a plan ready for the next phase of the project. The HCSO was given an estimate of $10,000.
Animal Services Director David Paloff is seeking to update the project plan to maintain current progress.
