Discussion Regarding Submittal of Proposed Maximum Millage Rates to Property Appraiser for FY 2024-2025

BRIEF OVERVIEW
As per Florida Statutes, Chapter 200, Determination of Millage which governs TRIM Compliance, the Board (Taxing Authority) is required to advise the Property Appraiser by August 4, 2024, of the proposed maximum millage rates and the date, time, and place of the First Public Hearing so that they can be noticed on the TRIM notice.
By setting the maximum millage, the Board can lower the millage rates but may not raise them.

The Board has the authority to act on this matter pursuant to §§ 129.03 and 200.065, Florida Statutes.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board discuss the maximum millage rates and direct staff to notify the Property Appraiser of their decision prior to the August 4, 2024, deadline and to set the date for the first public hearing as Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 5:01 p.m., in the John Law Ayers Commission Chambers, Room 160 20 North Main Street, Brooksville, FL 34601.
