Resolution Amending Universal Solid Waste Collection District
body
BRIEF OVERVIEW
The Universal Solid Waste Collection District exists to promote the common interest of the people to provide for the effectuation and financing of a refuse collection system that it is necessary to the health, safety and welfare of the citizens and residents of the unit. Chapter 14 of the Hernando County Code of Ordinances provides for the periodic review of the existing universal solid waste collection district boundaries. The current district boundaries were expanded in 2013. The solid waste collection district boundaries were previously discussed with the Board at Workshops held in March 2023 and November 2023. At that time, the Board requested to add Option 1 and Option 2 and a list of subdivisions to the current universal collection area. Also, the County is currently in the request for proposals (RFP) process for the solid waste collection contract that will begin in 2026. The attached resolution will have a direct impact on the collection costs in the contract.
The Notice of Public Hearing was published and mailed by first-class mail to newly effected property owners on December 20, 2024.
