Lease Agreement With Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay for Use of Coach Lorenzo Hamilton Sr. Community Building

body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

This lease agreement allows the non-profit Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay to host summer educational classes and extend into after-school classes when the school year begins this fall.

This initiative will engage students from both Moton Elementary and Brooksville Elementary Schools to provide opportunities for academic curriculum at the Coach Lorenzo Hamilton Sr. Park.

This agreement represents the first expansion into Hernando County for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Tampa Bay and will hopefully lead to further opportunities in other areas of Hernando County where strategic investments in youth education can provide lasting benefits.

STRATEGIC PLAN INITIATIVES

Quality of Life - Objective D.4.1 - Create a learning environment for growth and development.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

The applicant is requesting the Board waive the lease fees.  Doing so would keep entry fees low to allow greater youth access and thereby ensure that families that may be experiencing economic hardship can participate in the programs.

LEGAL NOTE

The Board is authorized to act on this matter pursuant to Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Board authorize a lease agreement with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Tampa Bay and determine the cost (if any).  Should the Board find that it serves a valid public purpose, the Board may authorize the lease at no cost or an alternate lease arrangement.  The decided cost should be added to the proposed lease agreement, and the Chairman should be authorized to sign it.
