BRIEF OVERVIEW

On September 12, 2016, the Board of County Commissioners approved Lutheran Services Florida, Health Services (LSF Health Services) to serve as the lead applicant for the Florida Department of Children and Families grant opportunity “Criminal Justice, Mental Health, and Substance Abuse Reinvestment Grant (CJMHSA) on behalf of Hernando County.  The Board was notified of the award and LSF Health Service’s contract with Department of Children and Families at the April 11, 2017, meeting.

 

LSF Health Services in collaboration with Hernando County Board of County Commissioners was tasked to expand diversion programs for youth 17 and younger with mental health, substance use, or co-occurring disorders, who are in or at risk of entering the juvenile justice system. 

 

LSF Health Services partnered with various providers, BayCare Behavioral Health, Spring Brook, NAMI Hernando, Hernando Community Coalition, and Dawn Center Hernando to increase public safety, avert increased spending on the criminal justice system, and improve the accessibility and effectiveness of treatment services to youth in the County. 

 

The grant deadline was December 31, 2023, and all program goals were met.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Board acknowledge that all program goals were met and recommend submission of the final report to Department of Children and Families.
