BRIEF OVERVIEW
Per the request of Commissioner Ryan Amsler, staff prepared Proposed Board Policy No. 44-01 for the creation of an Advisory Commission for Human Trafficking.
If approved by the Board of County Commissioners, the Hernando County Commission on Human Trafficking, which shall consist of nine (9) members who shall be appointed by the Board. Four (4) members shall constitute a quorum. The Commission may not take formal actions unless a quorum is present; however, it may meet in the absence of a quorum to hear presentations, provided that the meeting has been duly noticed. The Hernando County Health and Human Services Department shall provide the Commission with administrative support.
Committee membership shall consist of one designee each from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, Hernando County School Board, and the State Attorney’s Office of the Fifth Judicial Circuit, along with one resident each who is actively engaged in the tourism industry, who is actively engaged in the health care industry, who represents faith-based organizations, and who is actively engaged in advocacy related to the prevention of human trafficking. Two residents selected from the public at-large will also be appointed. A County Commissioner chosen by the Board and the Director of Hernando County Health and Human Services shall serve as ex officio members of the Commission.

It is recommended the Board deliberate on the adoption of Proposed Board Policy No. 44-01, Hernando County Advisory Commission on Human Trafficking.
