Receipt of Correspondence Regarding Marion County Response to Lake County and Seminole County Letter of April 18, 2025, Concerning Reassignment of Lake County to Medical Examiner District 24
body
BRIEF OVERVIEW
Received a copy of the attached letter from Marion County Board of County Commissioners Attorney, Matthew Minter, which responds to Lake County’s proposed options for Lake County leaving Medical Examiner District 5 and joining Seminole County in District 24. Marion County opposes all of Lake County’s proposed options, because they would increase costs for the remaining four (4) District 5 counties.
Marion County is making a conditional offer that it would support Lake County’s departure if all six counties involved work together to obtain state funding for the construction of a new medical examiner facility in Oxford to be utilized for the remaining District 5 counties (Citrus, Hernando, Marion, and Sumter). Lake County and Seminole County would continue to use the current Leesburg facility as their medical examiner facility, and Citrus, Hernando, Marion and Sumter Counties would be permitted to use the Leesburg facility until State funding is received for the new facility in Oxford and construction is completed. This proposal is consistent with the intent of the parties set in the original 2018 agreement.
