Reimbursement to Property Owner for Overpayment of Municipal Services Benefit Unit Non-Ad Valorem Assessments for 2019, 2020, and 2021

BRIEF OVERVIEW
In accordance with Board of County Commissioner’s Policy No. 16-1, relative to Municipal Service Benefit Units (MSBU), Property Key No. 01352477 was inadvertently overcharged for their Hernando County Fire Rescue and Solid Waste assessments. The overcharge was for an additional 6 houses on this property. As per the policy, three (3) years can be refunded and the owner of the property, Stewart R. Derryberry, has requested a refund of the overcharges in the amount of $5,184.48 for 2019, 2020 and 2021; this refund amount includes the early payment discounts. The property key has been corrected and refund has been issued by the Tax Collector’s office for 2022.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
A budget amendment has been entered:
• $3,888.34 from Hernando County Fire Rescue Division - 1661-02261-5304921
• $1,296.14 from Hernando County Solid Waste Division - 4411-07602-5304921

The Board has the authority to take the recommended action pursuant to § 197.182(1)(e) and Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve the reimbursement for the property listed above for the Municipal Service Benefit Unit (MSBU) overpayments and authorize Hernando County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services and Hernando County Solid Waste Department to process the payments.
