Proposed Public Survey of Residents Living Within or Adjacent to Proposed Manatee Protection Zone

BRIEF OVERVIEW
During the August 26, 2025, Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting, a draft Manatee Protection Zone (MPZ) ordinance was presented. This proposed MPZ would cover all waters and tributaries of the Mud River and Weeki Wachee Gardens to Shoal Line Boulevard. As numerous concerns were raised by citizens during this meeting, the BOCC requested a survey be conducted among all citizens living in or directly adjacent to the proposed MPZ. The draft survey is included for review and approval by the BOCC.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Mailing costs are estimated at approximately $520.00.

The Board is authorized to act on this item pursuant to Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve the survey language and advise staff to mail the survey to all residents living within or directly adjacent to the proposed MPZ.
