BRIEF OVERVIEW
The Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport (BVK) control tower is part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA’s) Contract Tower program (FCT). This allows the FAA to contract out the operation of 264 air traffic control towers to private companies. The program was established in 1982.
The control tower at BKV, is operated by Robinson Aviation, Inc. The tower operates from 7:00 a.m., to 10:00 p.m., 365 days a year with a staff of nine (9). The staff provides air traffic services without the advantage of radar or a situational awareness display system.
In calendar year 2023, BKV tower operations totaled 109,643; this was a record year since the tower’s opening in 2012.
Each year, Robinson Aviation, Inc., awards one of its 103 control towers for “Outstanding Facility of the Year.” BKV was awarded this title for calendar year 2023. A ceremony was held at the tower on August 15, 2024, and an award was presented to tower staff by Robinson Aviation, Inc., President and Chief Executive Officer Keren Williams McLendon and Vice-President, FAA Contract Tower Program Stephen Smith. “This facility has a superior safety record, excellent labor relationships, and its workforce represent RVA's quality policy statement “do each job right the first time, every time” stated Mr. Smith.
