BRIEF OVERVIEW
As a new Urban Entitlement County and a recipient of Federal funds through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Hernando County is required to develop and submit a three-year Consolidated Plan for Federal Fiscal Years 2024-2026 and an Annual Action Plan for program year 2024-2025. The plan describes how the County will allocate its Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME) funds and carry out housing and community development activities over a three-year period.
Two in-person public hearings and a virtual hearing were held which provided for and encouraged citizen participation during the program planning. The purpose of the meetings was to obtain views from citizens, non-profit agencies, neighborhood associations, residents of public housing, business partners, housing partners, and other interested parties on housing, homelessness, community development, and economic development.
The Consolidated Plan needs assessment identified five priorities to be addressed during the plan period:
1. Affordable Housing
2. Neighborhood Revitalization
3. Public Services
4. Ending Homelessness
5. Planning and Administration
The one-year action plan includes strategies to address these needs through utilization of the CDBG and HOME funds.
Hernando County is expecting to receive the following annual allocations: CDBG -$1,122,376 and HOME - $392,305. The amounts may vary at the time of funding.
