Resolution Ratifying Declaration of Temporary Burn Ban Due to Drought Conditions

BRIEF OVERVIEW
On April 14, 2026, a temporary burn ban was declared, based upon the recommendation to the Fire Chief that an emergency drought condition exists and his enactment of temporary burn ban throughout the unincorporated areas of Hernando County.
The attached resolution is to ratify that declaration. Fire and Emergency Services staff will provide an update to the Board regarding precipitation and Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) numbers.

Staff will continue to monitor precipitation and KBDI index for any changes.

There is no financial impact.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve and authorize the Chairman’s signature on the attached resolution ratifying and declaring a temporary burn ban due to drought conditions in all unincorporated areas of Hernando County.
