In anticipation of receiving the cash associated with that revenue, an accounts receivable (AR) was booked to the balance sheet to track the balance of the payment that was owed, but not yet received; hence, upon receiving the cash (payment), the balance sheet AR will be reduced accordingly, as that balance isn’t owed any longer.
