Summary of Applicant’s Request:

The petitioner is requesting to rezone Parcel Key No. 855729, which consists of approximately 1.2 acres, from its current designation of R1-C (Residential) to AR (Agricultural/Residential).

 

The subject property is presently undeveloped. The petitioner intends to construct a single-family residence on the parcel and to utilize the property for small-scale agricultural purposes. Proposed activities include raising chickens and livestock, cultivating a vegetable garden, and practicing sustainable homesteading with the goal of establishing a self-sufficient lifestyle.

 

P&Z Action:

On November 10, 2025, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-0 to recommend the Board of County Commissioners adopt a resolution approving the petitioner’s request for a rezoning from R-1C (Residential) to AR (Agricultural/Residential) in accordance with the staff report.

 

FINANCIAL IMPACT

A matter of policy. There is no financial impact.

 

LEGAL NOTE

The Board has the authority to make the requested rezoning decision pursuant to Chapters 125 and 163 Florida Statutes.  The Applicable Criteria for a Zoning District Amendment are contained in Appendix A (Zoning Code), Article VI.  The Zoning District Amendment must be consistent with the Comprehensive Plan.

It is recommended that the Board adopt and authorize the Chairman’s signature on the attached resolution approving the petitioner’s request for a rezoning from R-1C (Residential) to AR (Agricultural/Residential) in accordance with the staff report.
