Discussion Regarding Potential Renaming of Hexam Water Treatment Plant in Memory of Mark K. Morgan

body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

Hernando County Utilities (HCUD)is requesting to rename the Hexam Water Treatment Plant to the “Mark K. Morgan Regional Water Treatment Facility”.  Mark Morgan served as a professional engineer for HCUD starting in 1992 (over 30 years of service) and was an integral part of HCUD for his entire career with Hernando County. Mark was a professional engineer who designed multiple water and wastewater plant projects and served as the engineer of record. His most recent notable project was the design of our reclaimed water system that sends almost 2 million gallons of reclaimed water per day from the Glen treatment facility to Timber Pines.

Mark was involved with many projects that are in use today with one in particular being the Hexam Water Treatment Plant. We would like to honor the dedication and accomplishments that Mark provided to the County by renaming this facility in his memory.

Attached are letters of support from Mark’s family in favor of renaming the facility.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended the Board have discussion renaming of the Hexam Water Plant.  If the request is supported, staff should be directed to follow the procedure outlined in Policy No. 31-01 starting with advertising a “Notice of Intent to Name County Property or Facility” and the formation of an ad hoc Names Selection Committee.  The request will be brought back to the Board for final consideration once the procedure has been completed.
