Discussion Regarding Proposed Revisions to Drainage Permit Requirements

body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

Currently, drainage for the majority of development projects in the County is conducted by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) and Hernando County Engineering Department.  The attached Language is proposed for the Board’s consideration to allow projects that have privately maintained drainage systems and have a review of the Engineering design by an Engineer at SWFWMD to accept the approval of the design by SWFWMD.

This does remove a duplicate review for some drainage projects in the County. However, the review by the local engineers does provide the ability to provide knowledge of local drainage concerns that SWFWMD might not be aware of.

Existing drainage design language from the current Facility Design Guidelines and proposed additional language is attached. Should the Board wish to adopt these changes or any other revisions, a resolution will be brought back at a later date for adoption.
