Write-Off of Uncollectible Utilities Department Accounts

BRIEF OVERVIEW
At the regular Board meeting held on July 17, 2007, the Board approved a uniform write-off policy for Hernando County Utilities Department (HCUD). In accordance with Resolution No. 2007-197, HCUD is requesting to write off the attached listing of accounts receivable totaling $22,669.33 which are deemed uncollectible. Write-off amounts are attributed to various factors including transient customers, foreclosures, and bankruptcies and all reasonable attempts have been taken to collect payment on these accounts.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
Write-off amount of $22,669.33 is available in Account No. 4111-07091-5304975, Utilities Operating Fund, Utilities Admin.Dept., Bad Debt Expense A/R Account.

The Board has the authority to make the recommended action pursuant to Chapter 125, F.S.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended the Board approve the write-off of bad debt accounts not to exceed a total write off amount of $22,669.33 with no individual customer account exceeding $10,000.
