Termination of Interlocal Agreement on Fire Hydrants With City of Brooksville

BRIEF OVERVIEW
An interlocal agreement with the City of Brooksville has been in place for a number of years governing inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire hydrants connected to city water but located beyond city limits. This agreement is now obsolete as Hernando County has created a Hydrant Division to perform these functions. In order to terminate the interlocal agreement, Board approval is required. Termination will take effect September 29, 2025, unless the City agrees to an earlier termination date.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The County will no longer budget for the payment to the City of Brooksville for these services.

The Board has authority to act on this matter pursuant to Chapter 125, Florida Statutes.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board approve terminating the Interlocal Agreement on Fire Hydrants and authorize the issuance of a notice of termination by the County Attorney’s Office to the City of Brooksville.
