BRIEF OVERVIEW

Pursuant to Section 21-206 of the Hernando County Code of Ordinances, Emergency Management Director David DeCarlo will provide the Board with a report regarding the actions taken during Hurricane Idalia.

 

On August 26, 2023, Governor Ron DeSantis declared a State of Emergency in the State of Florida due to the severity and magnitude of Invest 93L.  The State of Emergency was amended to include Hernando County and 45 other Counties on August 28, 2023, with Executive Order No. 23-172.  A State of Local Emergency was declared for a period of seven (7) days for Hernando County, effective August 27, 2023, through September 2, 2023.  Copies of the Governor's Executive Order No. 23-171, Executive Order No. 23-172 and Proclamation No. 2023-01 entitled Declaration of State of Local Emergency are attached.

 

A State of Local Emergency was extended for a period of seven (7) days for Hernando County, effective September 2, 2023, through September 9, 2023, with Proclamation No. 2023-02.  Copy of the Proclamation No. 2023-02 is attached.

The Board has authority to act on this matter pursuant to Chapter 252, Florida Statutes, Hernando County Code XII, § 21-201 through 21-210, and Executive Order No. 23-171.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that the Board approve the actions taken by Emergency Management during the State of Emergency declared for Hurricane Idalia and ratify the Chairman’s signature on Proclamation Numbers 2023-01 and 2023-02.
