Proposed Adopt-A-Kennel Program for Animal Services Department

body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

To engage with the community and to enhance efforts to find our animals new homes for adoption opportunities, the Animal Services Department is introducing a new program.  The Adopt-A-Kennel program is designed to meet the community’s strong willingness to volunteer and help get our animals adopted into caring families.

The program will function with a core group of participating businesses, organizations, and/or individuals who elect to sponsor a selected kennel.  These sponsors shall help promote, through social media or any available communication media source, the animal occupants of the sponsored kennels.  The goal is to promote adoptions for the selected animals within each adopted kennel.

The sponsors also have the option to volunteer time, materials, or any other assistance for walking or socializing animal occupants of the shelter and the adopted kennels.

The program entails a total of three (3) documents that make up the Adopt-A-Kennel program:  1.) Board Policy, 2.) Enrollment Form, and 3.) Program Agreement.

FINANCIAL IMPACT

Upon Board approval, all Adopt-A-Kennel application fees shall be placed into a special revenue account in the amount of $1,200 for each dog kennel and $600 for each cat kennel.  The collected fees shall be used to help promote adoption events, enhance community outreach, and improve kennel housing spaces within the Department facility.

LEGAL NOTE

The Board is granted authority under Chapter 125, Florida Statutes to act on this matter.
