BRIEF OVERVIEW
Purchasing this property on Commercial Way and Atlanta Avenue will provide Hernando County an opportunity for a new Fire Station to accommodate the citizens of Hernando County.

Due to the population increase in Hernando County the likelihood of emergencies, including fires, also increases. Higher population densities can also elevate the risk of accidents and other hazards. Additional fire stations can provide preventive measures, better safety education and more resources to mitigate these risks, helping to prevent large-scale disasters.

As growth within Hernando County continues, existing fire stations may be overloaded trying to meet demands. New stations distribute the workload, preventing overburdening of existing resources and maintaining a high level of service.

New fire stations also create jobs in the community, from firefighters and paramedics to administrative staff and maintenance workers. This contributes positively to the local economy.

Additionally, adequate fire protection infrastructure, including fire stations, can potentially lead to lower insurance premiums for residents and businesses, making the area more attractive for investment and settlement.

A new fire station helps to ensure that emergency services can reach incidents more quickly, minimizing damage and saving lives. Fire Station No. 16 will include a Fire Engine and an EMS Medical Unit.

Staff recommends the contract to purchase the property located on Commercial Way and Atlanta Avenue, currently owned by Michael Denktsis and Helen Denktsis for the amount of $604,650.00 be approved.
