Discussion Regarding Proposed Heart of Florida Landfill Leachate Disposal Well

BRIEF OVERVIEW
At the request of Chairman Campbell, the Board will discuss the proposed Heart of Florida Landfill Leachate Disposal Well. At the last Withlacoochee Regional Water Supply Authority (WRWSA) meeting, a presentation regarding this project was presented. That presentation is attached to this agenda item.
The Heart of Florida Landfill in Sumter County has applied for and received a Class V Exploratory Well to determine ability to discharge leachate into a Deep Injection Well below the Underground Source of Drinking Water confining geological layer.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the Board have discussion regarding the proposed deep well injection permit and authorize staff to draft a letter to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection regarding issues and concerns it will bring to the aquifer system potentially affecting Hernando County and the region.
