body

BRIEF OVERVIEW

County Administrator Jeff Rogers will provide the Board with an update on the Shoal Line Boulevard Recreation Project and Weeki Wachee River Springs Protection Zone.

The County has received a response to a proposal submitted to Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) for options to gain access to the Weeki Wachee Preserve.  Staff will review the proposal and discussions they have had with SWFWMD and options for the BOCC to proceed with the project.

The County has also made a proposal to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) to create a prohibited anchoring, mooring, beaching, and grounding zone on locations within the Weeki Wachee River.  FWC has recently conducted a public workshop in Hernando County and has presented recommended changes to the County requested Springs Protection Zone.  Staff will review the recommended changes with the BOCC and get direction on continuing to work with FWC to establish the Springs Protection Zone.
