BRIEF OVERVIEW
The Florida Department of Health (DOH) provides a grant opportunity annually through an Emergency Management Services (EMS) Matching Grant. The DOH funds 75% of the grant and 25% is funded through local funds. Hernando County Fire and Emergency Services (HCFES) applied for the grant to purchase thirty (30) intravenous infusion pumps, pump kits, cables, adapters and carry bags. The total cost of the items requested through the grant was $64,119.00.

On May 2, 2022, HCFES was notified that they were awarded $48,089.00 to improve and expand EMS by assisting in purchasing these items. Hernando County's 25% cost match was $16,030.00 based on the initial grant request.

On June 14, 2022, Resolution No. 2022-109 was presented to the Board for the budget resolution to acknowledge the grant award.

HCFES obtained three (3) quotes for the purchase of the equipment and has discovered that the equipment can be purchased at a lower cost from a distributor than the manufacturer. Because of this discovery, HCFES contacted the DOH for approval and authorization to increase the purchase to thirty-four (34) Intravenous Infusion Pumps and accessories at the lower cost of $61,071.05. DOH has granted approval and authorized HCFES to make the changes. Due to the price change, DOH's 75% grant portion will be $45,803.29 and Hernando County's 25% cost match will be $15,267.76. HCFES will reimburse the DOH the difference of the initial grant award based on the higher prices less the actual cost.
